November News and Happenings

In order to offset the darkness brought on by the time change and fall weather, we have scheduled some truly exciting things at Newspace for November:

Read on to get all of the nitty gritty details on November’s happenings!

On Display: November 7-30th
Opening Reception: Friday, November 7th 6-9pm
FREE Artist Lecture with Rubi Lebovitch: Saturday, November 8th 1-2pm

Throughout November Newspace is pleased to present Rubi Lebovitch’s Home Sweet Homeseries, in which he stages humorous and surreal situations around the home. Lebovitch uses universal domestic gestures and scenarios that reflect the complexities of relationships between the subjects, the objects, and their surroundings.

Meet the artist behind the work this Friday at the Opening Reception from 6-9pm and on Saturday, November 8th at the Free Public Lecture from 1-2pm!

November 29, 2014 | 11:00am – 5:00pm

Join Newspace for our very first Tintype Portrait Session! Just in time for the holiday season, get a photograph of yourself and/or your loved ones captured in the historic tintype process.

Tintypes were the first widely available photography portrait process, most popular in the late 1800s. At our portrait session, Portland-based photographer, Ray Bidegain will make portraits using the same methods as those early photographers did more than 100 years ago. Although the process itself does not include a negative or a digital file, for an additional fee we’ll scan your image for you to share or reprint. Actual tintype will be 4″ x 5″ small metal (iron) plate with a single image on it.

$50 per portrait session | $15 per scan

The Newspace Volunteers are pleased to host the first Newspace Center for Photography Pop Up Show on December 2, 2014 from 6-9 pm. For one night only, Newspace will allow photographers to present their work for sale in the Newspace gallery!

The pop up show is open to all area artists with a $10 fee for participation. The viewing of the exhibition is free and open to the public (so bring your friends!).

To sign up, register at the front desk or email for more details. Space is limited to the first 50 artists.
