Lecture: Rafia Santana | home school

May 21 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Join home school at Newspace for its first artist talk of 2017!  Multimedia artist RAFiA Santana will discuss memory, manipulation, and the spiritual value of the archive. Beer and snacks will be available! As always, the session will be livestreamed and archived for remote participation.

Rafia Santana is a Brooklyn-born polymath who engages multiple mediums to supplement communicating verbally as, being a small black woman, she is persistently misunderstood, underestimated, and ignored.

home school is a free pop-up art school co-facilitated by Victoria Anne Reis and manuel arturo abreu. We provide welcoming contexts for critical engagement with contemporary art and its issues, with a curriculum featuring artist talks, exhibitions, monthly classes, poetry readings, and more. Our pedagogy honors the casual rigor of the etymology of “school,” from the Greek ‘shkole,’ meaning “spare time, leisure, idleness, rest.”

All home school events are streamed live and archived at http://homeschoolpdx.tumblr.com/ Contact us at portland.home.school at gmail dot com.

home school’s 2016 curriculum received support from a Precipice Fund grant, and the 2017 curriculum is supported by a RACC project grant.

Free and open to the general public.
