Newspace Center for Photography is now accepting applications for a dynamic and motivated individual to be a Programs Fellow. The individual will contribute to the coordination, research and community engagement efforts in support of our upcoming exhibition and traveling public programs series ‘Exposing the Archive’ taking place in October & November 2017. This opportunity is most suitable for individuals interested in nonprofit arts administration and research. This fellowship includes a stipend and requires a part-time, 7-month commitment beginning in late April and will be expected to commit 8 hours per week to this project. This position will report to the Executive Director and the Curator.

Are you interested in becoming an educator at Newspace? Do you have a class you would like to teach? Complete our NEW Class Proposal Form to share your interests and skills. Newspace prefers instructors with prior teaching experience and with an idea for a potential class. We are looking for educators for Adult and Youth classes, Technical and Conceptual, Digital and Film, and Workshops and Lectures. Please take a look at our current offerings to get an idea of the kind of classes we currently offer. We are always looking for new avenues of thought and instruction, or for a new twist on old techniques and concepts. We look forward to learning more about you and your class ideas!
Once we receive your completed proposal form the Education Director may ask you for a copy of your Curriculum Vitae, including a list of courses you have taught, and samples of your work or your student’s work.
The Newspace Teaching Assitant Program is intended to provide TA’s with mentorship and teaching experience. Through the guidance of the Educator – TA’s will have the opportunity to observe classroom management, learn effective teaching practices, and guide student learning. TA’s are invited to attend and participate in Educator’s Meetings where the Newspace Education Director will provide professional development and training to both Educators and TA’s. TA’s are unpaid positions, but TA’s are given equivalent time served in the classroom to utilize in Newspace’s Darkroom or Digital Lab.

The Newspace Volunteer Program offers participants the opportunity to earn benefits such as free time in facilities and more while helping to keep Newspace running in a variety of ways. The preferred prospective volunteer should have photographic and customer service experience, enthusiasm for the arts, and a desire to contribute to the strength of the organization. Volunteers put in anywhere from 4 hours/week to 4 hours/seasondepending on the position. Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning, customer service, guiding tours of the facilities, setting up artists in our facilities (darkroom, digital lab, studio). A successful volunteer should also be able and willing to work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff, and advocate for Newspace broadly in the community.
Newspace welcomes volunteer applications throughout the year, but only takes on new volunteers based on current need for help. If we do not currently have anything open that fits with your interest and skill set, your application will be on file until a position opens up and you will be contacted if something opens up. Currently, Newspace is seeking help with the following:
- Front desk operation
- Data entry
- Inventory & organization
