April 4th through 27th
Opening Reception: Friday, April 4th 6-9pm
Newspace is pleased to present the exhibition of photographer Ivan Wentland’s stunning series of color photographs titled “Beautifully Broken”. Living in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mr. Wentland, through experimenting and curiosity, has developed a unique chemical manipulation he first conceived during three years of working in commercial advertising. The images are first shot with an SX-70 Polaroid camera using Time Zero film, at which time the manipulation is done with heat. High-resolution scans are made and then printed as limited edition lambda prints. No Photoshop is used in this process.
Ivan Wentland was born near Seattle in Auburn, Washington in 1969. His childhood was filled with many moves that seemed like a great adventure to him as he grew up gazing at the beauty of the world passing the family car windows from Washington to California, Pennsylvania, Maine, Florida and the many states in between. The impressions were lasting. It was during his childhood travels that his love of beautiful images was born and nurtured. In college this love took form and matured. Ivan attended Andrews University in Michigan where he majored in photography and graduated in 1993 with a bachelor’s of science degree in technology.
