Description: Build a solid foundation in photography by learning to use your camera in manual mode and explore how shutter speed, aperture,  and ISO interact to create great exposures. You will study light, color, and compositional techniques to create strong images. You will identify and use natural lighting conditions to their full potential using your light meter and histogram. Finally, put your new skills to work on location during the three hour field trip! Recommended for beginners.

Prerequisites: Students must have digital cameras with shutter speed and aperture controls.

Film Camera: Daylight Portrait

Description: In this class, you’ll explore how natural light can be the photographer’s greatest tool by capturing dynamic portraits using a film camera and available light. You’ll also work with reflectors and learn how to control backlight and flare. In the second session students will develop film and review photographs created during the first session.
Prerequisites: Students must have SLR cameras. Working knowledge of exposure techniques is helpful.

Description: In this week long camp youth will be introduced to the world of hands-on photography. Students will learn how to control their film cameras to make correct exposures for different lighting situations. They will learn to develop their own B&W film and use Newspace’s darkroom to print their negatives onto photographic paper. They will also investigate creative techniques–learning how to invest in their own ideas. Students will bring home B&W photographs! No photographic experience is needed.
