Building a Portfolio

Level 3-4

This intensive course is designed to help you complete a new body of work or an existing series, with the goal of creating a completed portfolio of 15-20 prints. The first half of each class will be spent discussing concept development, image and print quality, print size, printing materials, editing, sequencing, general craft, bookmaking, marketing, and writing your project statement; the second half will be devoted to evaluating your progress on the development of your work.

This is not a “technical skills” workshop, although technique will be discussed as it pertains to making work stronger. The emphasis will be on creating a body of work and shaping its form so that you will be able to present the portfolio to your chosen audience effectively.

You’ll develop both the tangible product—a portfolio—and the ability to explain its importance. This class will sharpen your ability to critique your own work and others’, and enable you to work through a project from conceptualization to final printing.

Admission is by review. Interested participants should send 10 jpegs (72dpi) to laura@newspacephoto.org for review. Accepted students will be notified by email.
