Creative Camera Techniques

Level 2

If you’ve got shutter speed and aperture under your belt but need some practice to make perfect, this class is a great chance to solidify your skills. You’ll learn how to use manual camera controls to enhance your creativity and open new doors with your photography.

Class will cover long exposures, photographing in low light, blurring and stopping motion, and creating images with a beautiful, shallow depth of field to bring out specific details in your shots. You’ll also learn how and when to use a tripod for greater stability, and how to override technically “correct” settings to unleash your creativity and still maintain control over your final product.

An ideal class for those looking to broaden their view of the basics, this class is a recommended follow-up to our popular intro classes, Learning to Use Your Digital SLR or Fundamentals. Students must have SLR’s with shutter speed and aperture controls to take this class. Students should bring cameras.

Zeb Andrews has been seriously dedicated to photography since 2002 when a Pentax K1000 made its way into his hands and almost did not escape again. Not long after that he bought his first “real” camera, a Nikon FM2. His family of cameras has grown much since that first Nikon over the years, but that FM2 is still going strong.

Zeb loves to teach and share. He believes you make yourself better by making those around you better. When he is not working full time at Blue Moon Camera and Machine, he is generally spending his days off photographing and teaching photography classes and workshops.

Susan Bein began photographing with black and white film over 40 years ago, taking workshops with Ansel Adams, Aaron Siskind, Paul Caponigro and Minor White. She enthusiastically embraced the digital age for its ability to give instant feedback and allow for more collaboration with subjects, and more creative risk-taking. She has taught Photoshop since its early versions and loves introducing fellow photographers to its powerful creative potential.
