Creative Speedlight Techniques

Level 2-4

In this class, you’ll learn to use small compact flash units off-camera to create fluid, versatile lighting scenarios without all the fuss and expense of larger lighting equipment. You’ll also learn to create affordable DIY light modifiers that will add flexibility and a dash of panache to your lighting arsenal.

PDX Strobist founder Jeff Mawer will show you how to position and manipulate small speedlights, and how to reflect and modify the light they produce.  You’ll get to work on location with a model as you refine your skills.

Students should bring cameras and flash units and may shoot with film or digitally. This class is a recommended follow-up to Conquering Flash.

Jeff Mawer has been photographing for the past 20+ years with an array of photography styles from documentary to fashion.
