Hotshot Portraits: A Beginner’s Guide

Level 1

Learn the principles of great portraiture in this one-day workshop with pro portrait photographer Joni Kabana. Joni will demystify the portraiture process and show you how easy it can be to work with people to get compelling shots. You’ll learn key lighting and portraiture techniques as you work in the lighting studio and in natural lighting situations. Class will cover casual and formal portraits, and working with backgrounds, clothing, props, and lighting.

Joni will show you how to maximize the potential in your portraits with helpful tips that can really make a difference. You’ll spend the first part of the day learning the tricks of the trade, and the second half of the day photographing friends and family. Each student may invite friends or family members to participate in the second half of the class. You’ll come away with a great set of new skills and some professional quality images of your own.

Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally. No lighting experience is necessary.
