On Assignment: Waterfall Wonderland
Level 1-4
This popular day trip is a chance to explore waterfall photography at its finest. The company of a top-notch landscape photographer will make the trip a rare treat. Silver Falls State Park is a waterfall-lover’s paradise, with ten stunning falls descending into a beautiful canyon filled with ferns and stately Douglas Firs.
On this trip, you’ll explore a number of these falls as you experiment with landscape-specific camera techniques. Photographer Frank Lavelle will show you how to use long exposures to make water appear silky and smooth, and shorter exposures to capture water droplets to great effect. This is peak waterfall season, so the falls will be at their most dramatic. The area’s striking geology and natural vistas are picture perfect opportunities for experimenting with landscape photography. With Frank’s inspiring guidance, you’ll learn to make some truly unique images.
The second class will be a group sharing and critique of work created during the trip.
Students should be prepared for moderate hiking
