On Assignment: Winter Streets
Level 1-4
Despite the chill, the city is rich with photographic opportunities in the winter. Foggy windows, rain-soaked streets, white plumes of breath from passersby, bare tree branches—all contribute to the mood and drama of winter in the northwest. On this trip, you’ll explore the city streets with veteran street photographer Bobby Abrahamson as your guide.
You’ll gain a new appreciation for the season as you learn the skills necessary to capture it on camera. The trip will also include an overview of tools and techniques for photographing people on the street and shooting in low light and darkness, as well as a survey of photographers who have used the city as their muse. The second class will be a group sharing and critique of work created during the trip.
Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.
The class will be taught by photographer Bobby Abrahamson, a documentary photographer, filmmaker and media educator with more than 23 years professional experience. He has four published books of his work, and has been featured in 11 solo shows and numerous group exhibits in the US and Europe. His professional clients have included TIME, Fortune, US News & World Report, The New York Times and the advertising firm Wieden & Kennedy. He has a Master of Arts degree in Media Studies from New School University. Bobby teaches photography at Newspace, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Mount Hood Community College, Clark College, Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland Art Museum, Saturday Academy and Open Meadow Middle School.
