Environmental Portraiture

Level 2-4

In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to work closely with renowned photographer Shelby Lee Adams. Adams’ photographs of the people of Appalachia have long been praised for their rare humanity and grace. This workshop is a chance to work closely with Shelby while developing your own eye for portraiture and the environment. You’ll learn to overcome your fears of portraiture and approach your subjects with greater confidence and creativity. Shelby will show you how he works with real people to create intimate portraits that tell a story.

The workshop will also emphasize digital lighting techniques, including working with mixed lighting scenarios and strobe in the field. Reviews of student work and plenty of hands-on shooting time will make this workshop a wonderful opportunity to delve deeply into your photographic process. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided each day.

Portfolio review is required for admission – see below for details. Please register by July 16thth to reserve your space. Students may shoot digitally or with film.
