The Fine Portrait
Level 2-4
What makes a strong portrait? How do you work with a subject and their environment to create a truly striking image? In this in-depth class, you’ll learn how to work with people to bring out the emotions and energy you’re looking for in a shot. Pro photographer Frank Lavelle will be your guide. Through slide shows, in-depth discussions about portrait styles and techniques, portraiture demos, and helpful assignments, you’ll learn to create compelling portraits that express your vision.
You’ll also learn how to scout locations with an eye for light and time of day, and how to choose spaces that meaningfully synthesize subject with environment. Class will also include an overview of tools and techniques for portraiture.
Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.
