Ugly, Shocking, Bizarre
Level 2-4
This popular class is back, with all new content for new or returning students. If you’re stuck in a rut taking the same old pictures over and over again, or are constantly measuring yourself against others’ standards, this class will help you break out of the mold and expand your photographic horizons.
By completing a series of unusual and provocative weekly assignments, you’ll learn to challenge your boundaries and artistic comfort zone. You’ll be asked to make photographs you never imagined would come from your camera—and you’ll find out that good pictures don’t have to be pretty.
Students should bring 10-15 prints to class.
Some images with mature content will be shown during class.
The class will be taught by photographer Bobby Abrahamson, a documentary photographer, filmmaker and media educator with more than 23 years professional experience. He has four published books of his work, and has been featured in 11 solo shows and numerous group exhibits in the US and Europe. His professional clients have included TIME, Fortune, US News & World Report, The New York Times and the advertising firm Wieden & Kennedy. He has a Master of Arts degree in Media Studies from New School University. Bobby teaches photography at Newspace, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Mount Hood Community College, Clark College, Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland Art Museum, Saturday Academy and Open Meadow Middle School.
