This weekend intensive is a chance to study with renowned portrait and landscape photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen. The weekend will be an in-depth look at what it means to embark on a creative path, with a focus on accessing personal creativity through photography. What does it mean to decide to be an artist? How can you nurture creativity in your life and continue to grow as an artist? How can you create strong images that truly express your vision?

With Arno's inspiring guidance, you'll begin to answer these questions as they relate to your own work and process. The weekend will include round-table discussions, slide-lectures, and hands-on shooting, as well as in-depth reviews of student work. Arno will help you identify the next steps to take with your work, as you learn to articulate and hone in on your creative vision. Students will also complete two unique assignments designed to spark creativity and develop the senses.

Students should bring cameras and 10 - 20 recent images to share with Arno and the group.

About
Arno Rafael Minkkinen is a Finnish American photographer. He is an inspirational educator, lecturer, and essayist. Critic A.D. Coleman wrote of Minkkinen, "[His] photographs form an astonishing account of one man's primal engagement with the civilized and natural worlds, and with himself - both a physical odyssey and a psychological voyage of the solitary human spirit...[They are] elegant, witty, inventive, and often stunningly beautiful."

Minkkinen's work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography among many others. He is represented by Robert Klein Gallery in Boston, Fay Gold in Atlanta, Galerie Anhava in Helsinki, and Tibor de Nagy Gallery and Barry Friedman Ltd. in New York. He has published six monographs of his work and is Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts.
