On Assignment: St. John's Bridge

(L2-4)

Sunday, October 24th 3-9pm
Thursday, October 28th 6:30-9:30pm
$115

This trip is an architectural photography adventure with bridge photographer extraordinaire, Zeb Andrews. On this trip, you'll photograph the St. John's Bridge as the late afternoon shifts through sunset to twilight.

Zeb will show you how he creates wonderfully expressive, unique images using wacky techniques and unusual tools. You'll begin the day with an overview of technique at Newspace and then head up to Cathedral Park and the St. John's Bridge. One of the city's most stunning architectural icons, the St. John's Bridge is a study in dramatic shapes and patterns. With Zeb's guidance, you'll learn to turn a creative eye on this iconic Portland bridge as you refine your technical skills.

The second session will be a review/critique of work created on the trip. Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.

This class will be taught by Portland Photographer Zeb Andrews.

On Assignment: Homage to Ralph Eugene Meatyard

(L1-4)

Weekend of October 30th through November 1st
Review of work - Saturday, November 8th 10am-1pm
$295

This trip is a Halloween homage to macabre photographer extraordinaire Ralph Eugene Meatyard. The trip will begin with a tour of the Oregon Vortex in Gold Hill, a place known for mysterious visual and perceptual phenomena. Fact or fiction? You'll have to experience it to find out. You'll also get to explore a creepy old cemetery and the beautiful landscapes near the Rogue River and Siskiyou Mountains. The trip wouldn't be complete without a dash of Meatyard flair - trip leader Susan Bein will have creepy masks and costumes on hand - perfect fodder for some truly unusual images. Participants are also highly encouraged to bring costumes and props to play with in the field. Susan's inspiring guidance and sense of fun will really make this a special trip for those looking to break out of the mold and get creative with photography. The trip will also include a night photography session where you'll experiment with light painting. This trip is perfect for photographers at all levels who are ready for an intensive weekend of shooting. Class will meet at Newspace a week after the trip for a potluck editing and review session. Participants will receive a detailed itinerary upon registration.

This trip will be led by Susan Bein.
