On Assignment: Fall Colors at Tamanawas Falls
(L1-4)
Saturday, October 16th 8am-4pm
Tuesday, October 19th 6:30-9:30pm

Tamanawas Falls is lovely all year round, but in the fall, the area is aglow with the bright yellow and
orange of larch and cottonwood leaves. This trip is an exploration of fall colors at their finest with
photographer Frank Lavelle. A four mile out-and-back hike will take you along a clear, rippling
creek, under a gorgeous canopy of colorful leaves and old-growth ponderosa pines, and through a
dramatic boulder field.
The falls itself is a breathtaking 100 foot drop - accessible around the back by
a trail cut into the cliff. You'll learn essential tips
for photographing fall landscapes successfully
as you experiment with composition, color, and
macro and wide-angle perspectives. The second
session will be a review/critique of work created
on the trip.
Students should be comfortable with
moderate hiking. Students should bring cameras
and may shoot with film or digitally.
Instructor Frank Lavelle teaches at the Maine Media Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops.
