Color - if you use it well, it shows, but it's so easy to take for granted when shooting. In this class, you'll see how attention to color can make a world of difference in your photography. Fine-art photographer Frank Lavelle will show you how color effects mood, emotion, and meaning in a photograph, and how time of day and changing light can powerfully impact color as your camera sees it.

You'll learn to thoughtfully compose with color as you complete assignments tailored to enhance your awareness of color in the world around you. Class will also cover critical technical aspects of color photography, such as color temperature and white balance, so you'll be better prepared to make the most of your shots.

An exploration of the work of other photographers, paired with plenty of brainstorming, review, and critique will get you on your way to creating color photographs that really make an impact. Students should bring 10-15 prints.

Instructor Frank Lavelle teaches at the Maine Media Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops.
