Second, we are extremely excited to announce the photographers selected for Radical Color: 2015 Themed Exhibition! Juried by Humble Arts Foundationco-founder, Jon Feinstein, the exhibition is a fantastic representation of contemporary color photography. Join us for the Opening Reception this Friday, February 6th!

Third, 2015 Spring Catalog is in the final stages of being compiled and will be sent to press this week! We’ll be sending an online preview to Members later this week. Make sure your Membership is current to receive early access AND a copy of the printed catalog in the mail!

Finally, mark you calendars for our Portland Photo Month events! We will hold an Opening Reception for Jake Shivery‘s exhibition Contact on Friday, April  3rd. Jake will read from his forthcoming book on Saturday night, April 18th. And we’ll hold our final Tintype Portrait Session until Fall on Sunday, April 26th.

A Warm Welcome to Yaelle Amir, Newspace Curator

After completing a national search, Newspace has hired Yaelle Amir to serve as our inaugural curator, responsible for the organization’s photography exhibition program and corresponding lectures and public programs.

Yaelle Amir comes to Newspace from Brooklyn, NY where she has worked as an independent curator and writer for the past decade. Currently a Research Scholar at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, Amir has worked with a number of notable institutions in and around New York. These include her tenure as Curatorial Assistant and Writer for the International Center of Photography (ICP) and her work curating the exhibition Middle Ground: Photographs from the Whitney Museum of American Art. Amir is also the first recipient of the Paul Artspace curatorial residency in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her BA in Art History from Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2003 and her MA in Modern Art History and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University in New York, NY in 2006.

Yaelle will start her new role as Newspace Curator in March. Save the date for a public welcome reception for Yaelle on Friday, March 6th to coincide with First Friday and an intimate ticketed event on Saturday, March 7th. Details to follow.

Thank you to everyone who supported the addition of this position by backing our Kickstarter Campaign in October 2014. Your support has allowed Newspace to subsequently receive grant funding from The Collins Foundation and the Fred W. Fields Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.
