Newspace Center for Photography is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Jesse Burke. The exhibition opening and artist’s lecture are both free and open to the public.

Jesse Burke’s photographs and installations evoke a deep lushness with images of velvet black darkness, blankets of pine needles, blood, love, and sadness. He photographs the natural world around him in order to explore notions of vulnerability. He is drawn to moments where a rupture or wound is physically, emotionally, or metaphorically inflicted.

Jesse is an instructor at Rhode Island School of Design where he received his MFA in Photography. His work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in New York, Tokyo, Milan, Stockholm, Madrid, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Tucson, Providence, Ottawa, and Boston. Burke was the recent recipient of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts Aaron Siskind Fellowship in photography.

His first monograph, Intertidal, was recently published by Decode Books. He lives in Rhode Island with his wife and daughter.
